Paynes Creek Crossing is the beginning of a gravel road that leads to Hog Lake on Highway 36. The ride there is mostly climbing with some very nice panoramic views of the area.
About one hundred yards into the ride you come upon Paynes Creek, and at a little over knee-deep one might decide to cool off in the cool water. For those, that don’t want to get their feet wet there is a way over the rocks downstream.
Hog Lake should have been called Hog Flat, Hog Pond or something else; however, it does make a nice center to the 8.41 mile ride. From the ridge to the North of Hog Lake, the views are pretty nice.
