The Princess Ditch Trail starts at the Oak Knoll Trailhead on Mule Town Road, just a short Westerly drive from Redding, CA on Placer Road. The Princess Ditch Trail can also be accessed from the Stoney Gulch Trailhead, just a short drive further down Mule Town Road, and just before the pavement ends.

The Oak Knoll Trailhead is nicely appointed with a large parking area, obviously designed to accommodate hikers, bikers, and equestrians. There are picnic tables, a restroom, and no day use fee.

Once on the trail, it climbs immediately, and continues to do so for miles. The trail ends seven and three quarters of a mile in, at the end of some very fine trail building. The in and out ride makes for a fine fifteen and a half mile trail ride.

The ride has several fine vistas of the Yolla Bolla Mountains to the South, and many views of Kanaka Peak, South Fork Mountain, and Shasta Bally to the West. All the climbing is gradual, switchbacks are clean, and all the creek crossings have bridges. This is a well thought out trail system, and a pleasure to ride for intermediate riders.
